Its time to see how much 'excess timber' you are carrying....

For those not at pre-season training last night, we finished the session with a measurement of weight and body fat.

Whilst not the only indicator of fitness and health, body fat content % is a useful measure of just how much useless weight we each carry around.

A healthy range for men is 7% - 20%.

A competitive amateur athlete (yes thats you) should strive for a 15% body fat content or less.

In my opinion, all other things being equal, you cannot be competitive for a full 80 minute rugby match with a body fat content of greater than 20%. How could you be? A fifth or more of your bodyweight is useless and unproductive, providing no strength, power or fuel. For a 16 stone forward, that is over 3 stone or the equivalent of 22 bags of sugar you are having to lug about!

If you fall outside the acceptable range, NOW is the time to do something about it. If you dont know how to change it, come see me for advice on training and diet.

We will test again on the last session(s) before the first league game and again in January - lets see what the results are!

Results will be posted on this site in due course.
